  5. Consideration of Resolution Authorizing Purchase of Nine Police Pursuit Vehicles:
The committee then took up the resolution for purchasing new squad cars. Captain Bolz reviewed the facts in favor of purchasing the Chevrolet Impalas. Chevrolet was the low bidder, several states have decided not to purchase the Ford Crown Victorias for their police vehicles and at least three states have filed suit against Ford because of the gas tanks exploding during rear impact collisions. For those reasons, it was the recommendation of Sheriff Stammen and Captain Bolz that Chevrolet Impalas be purchased

Captain Bolz further explained that the resolution was written to include the cost of $1,093 per car to make the current equipment compatible to seven of the new Chevrolets out of the nine being purchased. Seven Fords are being traded in and the equipment in those squads will have to be modified before being installed on the Impalas. The other two new cars will get equipment specifically manufactured to fit Chevrolet Impalas.

Motion by Carlson, seconded by Giebel, to purchase nine Chevrolet Impala vehicles from Don Larson Chevrolet of Baraboo and to include the expenditure of the necessary equipment purchases and modifications needed for a total cost of $155,652.04. Motion carried.

  6. Adjournment: Motion by Giebel, seconded by Wenzel, to adjourn the special meeting. Motion carried.
