Meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. By Earl and compliance with the
open meeting law was noted.
Moved by Haugen, seconded by Schlender to adopt the agenda. Motion
carried.
Moved by White, seconded by Schlender to approve the minutes of the
December 11, 2002 meeting. Motion carried.
COMMUNICATIONS:
Muhlenbeck distributed the document entitled "Health of the
Public" by John Chapin.
BUSINESS ITEMS:
There were no business items.
DEPARTMENT UPDATES:
- Appearance by Joyce Smidl, W.I.C. (Women, Infants and Children)
Director discussing the need for an additional position in the WIC
program. This position would be a new position that would do the
weighing and measuring of the children as well as the hemoglobin and the
blood lead screening. The Board suggested that Smidl bring back a job
description next month and the Board would act upon it.
- Appearance by Linda Splett, Public Health Nurse. She explained her
position and job duties to the Board. She works with the "Prenatal
Care Coordination Program" as her main responsibility. She also
performs paternity tests and pregnancy tests. The SIDS (Sudden Infant
Death Syndrome) is also part of her responsibilities.
- Appearance by Jeffrey Wagner, new Bioterrorism Project Director.
He introduced himself and explained his goals and what he wants to
accomplish and gave a Consortium update.
- The Board reviewed the monthly reports and they were added to the
minutes of the meeting.
- Moved by Vierbicher, seconded by Midthun to approve the December
Vouchers totaling $76,587.62. Motion carried.
- Muhlenbeck explained that a meeting of all of the Lake
Delton, Wisconsin Dells business men is set up for January 30, 2003 here
in the basement of the West Square Building. Invitations were sent to
legislators as well. The Health Officers of the four counties
surrounding the Dells will present the summer project and work with the
business community to try to come up with solutions.
- Moved by Haugen, seconded by Schlender to leave the fee schedules
as they are now. No recommended changes. Motion carried.
- Muhlenbeck distributed a letter to the medical community telling
them about the dramatic increase in Gonorrhea and some possible
strategies.
- The legislative report from the Wisconsin Association of Local
Health Departments and Boards was given by Haugen.
Next Board of Health Meeting is scheduled for February 12, 2003 at 6
p.m.
Moved by Haugen, seconded by Kreigl to adjourn. Motion carried.
