Health Care Center Committee Meeting Minutes


DATE: October 7, 2004

PRESENT: Arthur Carlson; Larry Volz; Linda Borleske; Tom Bychinski, Paul Endres; Jeanne Leeck, Administrator; Lisa Buttonow, Business Manager; Bill McClary, Chief Engineer and Margaret Burggraf , Activity Director were present for a portion of the meeting.

  1. Called to order at 8:30a.m. by Art Carlson. The open meeting law requirements were met.
  2. Motion by Bychinski, second by Volz to adopt the agenda.
    Motion carried.
  3. Motion by Endres, second by Bychinski to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.
  4. Communications. Jeanne received a Thank You card and donation from the family of Ellen Horkan for the fine care she received. Art briefly reported on his County Homes Association meeting.
  5. Public comment. None
  6. Report on Environmental Services Recognition Week . Jeanne presented the report on the housekeeping staff and their roles at the HCC. There are 7 full time and 4 part time employees who are on duty from 6 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. - 2:30 pm.m on weekends 365 days a year. Ron Birdd is the department manager. This department takes care of all the cleaning of the public areas, resident rooms and rest rooms, unloads and delivers supplies to different departments as well as collects and disposes of medical and biohazardous waste. They also take care of large cleaning duties such as window washing and stripping and waxing floors. To mark this special occasion, they had a potluck, made pies for staff, and had games with prizes for all employees.
  7. Discussion and Consideration of a Resolution for the emergency repair of the West elevator. Bill explained the need for the emergency repair.
    Motion by Endres, second by Volz to approve the Resolution for elevator repair. Motion carried.
  8. Discussion and Consideration of a Resolution for purchase of a washing machine. Bill discussed the need for the washing machine and reviewed the bids.
    Motion by Volz, second by Endres to approve the Resolution for purchase of a new washing machine. Motion carried.
  9. Discussion and Consideration of purchasing appliances for the Activity Department kitchen. Magaret discussed the need for the replacements as well as reviewed the bids.

    Motion by Bychinkski, second by Borleske to approve the expenditure to purchase new appliances.
    Motion carried.

  10. Review and consideration of recent donations. September donations will be presented next month.
  11. Administrator's Report. Jeanne related a request from David Allen to extend the pasture usage until November since he was unable to use the pasture because of fence damage. Dick Albrecht ws consulted and agreed with the extension. The committee agreed unanimously.
  12. Personnel Department Report. Katie reviewed the status of job vacancies and employee recruitment activities that have occurred over the past month. The market adjustment for RN staff was approved. Personnel staff are beginning the annual insurance category
  13. Review and approval of bad debt write-offs. Lisa explained the reasons for the write-offs.
    Motion by Endres, second by Borleske to approve the bad debt write-offs in the amount of $14,560.39. Motion carried.
  14. Review and approval of Vouchers/Receipts Review. Lisa explained the reasons for the write-offs.
    Motion by Endres, second by Borleske to approve the invoices for the month in the amount of $144,563.81. Motion carried.
  15. Review of Financial Statements. Lisa reviewed the financial statements of the month.
  16. Business Office Report. Lisa reported that she continues to look into correcting ongoing billing problems. Staff member returns from FMLA Monday so will be fully staffed. Committee commended Lisa on the fine job she is doing.

    Motion by Bychinski, second by Borleske to approve the invoices for the month in the amount of $144,377.11.
    Motion carried.

Motion by Borleske, second by Volz to adjourn.
Motion carried.
