Judiciary Committee - Minutes


DATE: Thursday July 8, 2004

PLACE: Branch II Jury Room, Historic Courthouse

PRESENT: Montgomery, Carlson, Fordham, Tollaksen, Sinklair, Grill, Johnson, Cara Cregar-Heidt, Marsha Varvil-Weld, and Steinhorst.

The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties notified.

Tollaksen made a motion, second by Fordham to adopt the Agenda. Motion, Carried.

Tollaksen made a motion, second by Fordham to approve the Minutes of the previous meeting. Motion Carried.

Carlson made a motion, second by Tollaksen to approve the Court Commissioner's and the Family Court Counseling's Mission, Visions and Goals for 2004/2005. Motion Carried.

Sinklair made a motion, second by Fordham to approve the Child Support Agency's Mission, Visions and Goals for 2004/2005. Motion Carried.

Carlson made a motion, second by Tollaksen to approve the District Attorney & Victim Witnesses Mission, Visions and Goals for 2004/2005. Motion Carried

Cara Cregar-Heidt and Marsha Varvil-Weld appeared to explain the functions of the CASA Program, and to request funds to help support the CASA program. CASA consists of volunteers who help Children under CHIPS orders because of Abuse and Neglect. CASA protects children and help them get out of foster care. The average cost of foster care for a child per year is $4,200. The average cost of CASA care for a child is $1,000 a year. In 2003 CASA volunteers served 20 children from Sauk and Columbia Counties donating more then 1500 hours of their time. The Committee would like Cregar-Heidt & Varvil-Weld to present their request to full County Board after they have contacted the Circuit Court Judges, Corporation Counsel and Department of Human Services, and their respective committees to gain their support.

Carlson made a motion, second by Tollaksen to approve the following monthly vouchers:

Child Support's monthly vouchers in the amounts of $4,325.40

District Attorney & Victim Witness' monthly vouchers in the amount $1,186.70

Circuit Court's monthly vouchers in the amount of $2,934.01

Clerk of Circuit Court's monthly vouchers in the amount of $21,995.24

Register in Probate/Juvenile Clerk in the amount of $1,096.89

Court Commissioner's and Family Court Counseling Mediation in the amount of $1,597.94. Motion Carried.

Tollaksen made a motion, second by Carlson to adjourn to Thursday August 12, 2004 at 8:15 a.m. in the Branch II Jury Room. Motion, Carried.
