Presentation of WNEP Program Cost Share Budget Figures

The WNEP Program runs on a fiscal year from October 1 to September 30 of the following year. Melissa Burke prepared her budget numbers for Sauk County's portion of the cost-share contributions and reported those numbers to the Ag & Extension Committee. Sauk County does not pay for Melissa's wages, but only provides in-kind space and materials, which for the 2005 - 2006 program year amounts to $14,522.69.

Discussion on Presenting Derek Brander's Alice in Dairyland Scholarship at the next Sauk County Board Meeting

Derek was unable to attend the June Sauk County Board meeting to receive his Alice in Dairyland scholarship, therefore, the decision was made to make the presentation at the July 19 Board meeting. Lynn will contact Kathy Schauf to have his appearance put on the County Board agenda and Judy will mail a letter to Derek to notify him.

Update on 2006 Budget Process

Paul reported that the first part of the budget (Form 1) with the department's Mission and Vision statements as well as the department's goals was submitted in May. The balance of the budget is due August 8th.

The overall budget for the UW Extension department will be reduced for 2006 due to the fact that there will be no capital outlay for a new copier and no outlay for the printing of the Sauk County maps.

Report on the State WACEC Meeting

Lester Wiese and Jerry Lehman attended the State WACEC Meeting in Ashland and gave a report back to the Ag & Extension Committee. This year the conference had a historical theme which was highlighted at the Big Top Chautauqua performance. Some other information that was presented was the closing of the research station in Ashland and that Cooperative Extension will be losing 85 employees/positions. The conference next year is scheduled to be in Oshkosh.

Agent Presentation

Jenny talked about the labor skills survey that she is working on for Lance Alwin, Baraboo School District Administrator. Lance had contacted Jenny to survey find out what local employers are looking for in high schoolers and recent high school graduates that are entering the workforce. The results of this survey will help the school district tailor classes in the district to meet these needs and will affect 8th graders that will be planning their high school curriculums this fall.

Jenny is looking to have the results back by the end of July and also reported that the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development is looking to receive a copy of the survey and its results. There isn't currently a survey like this in existence in the state.
