Arts, Humanities, and Historic Preservation Meeting Minutes


DATE: January 14, 2005

The regular meeting of the Sauk County Arts, Humanities and Historic Preservation Committee was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 4:03 p.m. by Art Carlson.

Members present: Arthur Carlson, Rose White, Judy Ashford, Henry Netzinger, Carol Sorg, Lola Huber, Peter Tollaksen

Others present: Kathy Schauf, Peter Shrake

The agenda was approved on a motion by Tollaksen, second by Ashford, and an unanimous vote of the Committee. The minutes of the prior meeting were approved on a motion by Sorg, second by Netzinger, and an unanimous vote of the Committee.

Public Appearances / Public Comment - None

Communications:

May 2005 has been designated as Historic Preservation and Archaeology Month. The committee received correspondence / newsletters from ArtsLink, Columns, and the Wisconsin Foundation for the Arts. Also received were nomination papers for endangered historic properties. Properties must merit the status of historic property. Application deadline in January 31, 2005.

Business Items:

P. Shrake presented the committee with information regarding the Sauk County Intensive Historical Survey. Peter will schedule a meeting with UW-Baraboo to ascertain willingness to participate. We will utilize the resources that are already available, and utilize volunteers extensively. Motion by Ashford, second by Tollaksen to move forward with the project, exploring possibilities and deciding after facts are known if the project is deemed feasible. Motion carried.

Updates:

Artist Registry - No new applications to consider.

County Courthouse - The subcommittee reported on current events being planned.

Motion by Tollaksen, second by Ashford to approve the payment of vouchers in the amount of $3,500. Motion carried.

Meeting adjourned on a motion by Ashford, seconded by Netzinger, with an unanimous committee vote. Next meeting date was set for 4:00 p.m. On February 11, 2005, in room 213 of the West Square Building.
