DATE: Wednesday, March 08, 2006
PLACE:
Room 133
West Square Building, Baraboo

The special meeting of the Grant Review History Panel was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 3:00 p.m. by Kathy Schauf.

Members present: Verlyn Mueller, Mary Jo Warnke, Paul Wolter, Donna Neuwirth, Fred Dahlinger

Others present: Kathy Schauf, Jilline Dobratz

The agenda was approved on a motion by Warnke, second by Mueller.

Introductions were made. The process procedures for considering the grants was discussed. Motion by Wolter, second by Mueller to have Fred Dahlinger serve as chair. Motion carried.

Consideration was given to the following grant applications. Award amounts were determined after discussion was completed.

Baraboo Range Preservation Association, Dear Editor:

Application left questions in panelist’s minds, wasn’t sure who “I” was, too many assumptions. Concerns of a small target audience, no sample of the work and wasn’t sure of the distribution. No support from Baraboo Range Preservation. Thought it would be an excellent compilation. Suggest that proposal be enhanced with more clarification and resubmitted in the future. Recommended no funding at this time.

Harrisburg Home and Community Education Club, Town of Troy Neighborhoods 1845-1950:

Panelists thought this was a good project. Would like to have had sample pages and photo of mural. Strong recommendation to print more books. Donation of copies to area libraries, schools and Historical Societies would be nice. Suggest some type of planned event to launch the book. Recommended full funding, $4,700.00.

Wormfarm Institute, Inc., Home Grown Culture:

D. Neuwirth recused self from discussion and vote. Great application but doesn’t meet the guidelines. Many questions regarding public performance and openness to the public. Who are the invited quests and speakers? Lacks funding sources. Innovative project, test run to build something bigger in the future to fund. Recommended no funding at this time.

Discussion on future instructions to applicants.

Meeting adjourned on a motion from Wolter, second by Mueller.

Respectfully submitted: Jilline Dobratz
