Arts, Humanities, and Historic Preservation


The regular meeting of the Sauk County Arts, Humanities and Historic Preservation Committee was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 1:00 p.m. by Art Carlson.

Members present: Arthur Carlson, Judy Ashford, Tommy Lee Bychinski, Jay Salinas, Rose White

Members excused: Peter Tollaksen, Lola Huber

Others present: Kathy Schauf, Peter Shrake, Paul Wolter

The agenda was approved on a motion by Bychinski, second by Ashford, and a unanimous vote of the Committee. The minutes of the prior meeting were approved on a motion by Ashford, second by Bychinski, and a unanimous vote of the Committee.

Business Items:

Presentation of courthouse celebration historical music by Chris Powers.

Discussion and consideration of budget request.

Budget numbers as presented were reviewed. Motion by Ashford, second by White to approve the budget and forward it to Finance for consideration. Motion carried.

Consideration of a resolution proclaiming October Arts and Humanities Month.

Motion by Bychinski, second by Salinas to forward a resolution proclaiming October Arts and Humanities Month to the County Board for consideration. Motion carried.

Consideration of Katahdin's Edge / JazzKids Wisconsin Workshop

This information will be forwarded to schools for their consideration.

Artist Registry

None. We will reissue a press release making artists aware of this opportunity.

County Courthouse

The subcommittee reported on current events being planned.

Mini grant process and documentation.

The committee reviewed two applications for minigrants, each requesting $500.00. Peidelstein grant: Motion by Bychinski, second by Salinas to award grant funds in the amount of $300. Motion carried. Al. Ringling grant: Motion by Bychinski, second by Ashford to award grant funds in the amount of $500. Motion to amend amount to $300 by Salinas, second by Bychinski. Motion failed 4 to 1.
Vote or original motion carried.

Discussion of grant parameters. Changes to process include: Area for identification of amount being requested. Expansion of funding explanation field. Request that individuals submit a letter of support from another individual or organization. Letter requesting information on outcomes will be sent with funding.

Blue Lake touring group

A. Carlson presented on current updates.

Update on WCA Conference Breakout

Art Carlson and Judy Ashford are scheduled to present.

No vouchers to approve. Meeting adjourned on a motion by Ashford, seconded by Bychinski, with a unanimous committee vote.

Next meeting date was set for 1:00 p.m. on Septmeber 08, 2006.
