The Association of Practitioners in Infection Control will be sharing information about infection control and emergency preparedness by visiting 1,765 physician offices in Wisconsin.

Hospital disaster preparedness update - A statewide summary of regional hazards vulnerability analysis will be prepared and available mid-September. Hospitals are stocking up on cots, with a certain percentage having a specialized mattress for patients susceptible to bed sores.
Information on WEM 7, the proposed Permanent Rule for implementation of the Wisconsin Disaster Fund, which would only be for public assistance, not individuals. The only eligible categories of assistance are debris clearance, emergency protective measures and road damages.
State now has an email address for questions related to the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and NIMS compliance issues. That email address is wisnims@dma.state.wi.us
Everyone should have received the instruction sheet to complete the NIMS Statement of Compliance. For smaller communities, you can note on the form that you are going to defer to the County's plan or planning. For example, if you don't have a public works director, or a police chief just note that you don't and will defer to the County plan.
We still need to get these completed and returned to the Sauk EM office by September 1, 2006. If you don't have the form you can go to http://emergencymanagement.wi.gov.There you can access the instruction sheet and the actual form to fill out and can e-mail it to the EM office.
Storm Ready - Sauk is working on being a Storm Ready County and now that each community has their weather radios in place in their public places, the application forms need to be completed and returned to Corene (copy enclosed)
Crash Recovery System is a database which a rescue worker can easily use to determine the location and deactivation procedure of safety components such as airbags, airbag gas generators and belt pretensioners. Corene has the brochure on this if anyone would like more information.
US Dept of Health & Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt announced on July 11, an additional $225 million in funding for state and local preparedness in relation to pandemic influenza planning.

Evacuation an issue almost 2 months after a drill at one of the largest trailer parks in Louisiana, which prompts the question here in Sauk as to how to handle an evacuation at some of the trailer parks, especially when there is only one way in and out of the park.
Hospital and nursing home administrators faced several challenges related to evacuations, including whether to evacuate or stay in their facilities and shelter in place.

The New York Times reports that the U.S. Government is revamping several of its core disaster relief programs, enacting changes that will include sharply cutting emergency cash assistance for victims of major disasters. Immediate aid would not exceed $500, instead of the $2,000 per family previously allowed in order to control fraud and abuse.

Recent studies show that people who tune in to cell phones and MP3 players tune out to the dangers around them i.e. Auditory alerts like ambulances.
Finishing up on the Sauk City and Lake Delton towers, Fire EMS and Law Enforcement frequencies are added. The Sauk City tower will not have paging at this time. Spring Green tower delivery is scheduled for August 28th & setting it up should be done by August 30th.Hillpoint tower is completed except for wiring and grounding; will probably be completed with the Spring Green tower, both will include paging.
