The regular meeting of the Environmental Resources Committee - Solid Waste Management Department was called to order at 8:30 a.m. in Room B30 of the Sauk County West Square Building. Chairman Zowin certified compliance with the open meetings law in that the meeting was properly posted and all parties duly notified.
Members absent: Wheeler
Also present: Carroll, Schauf, Beghin, Krueger
Motion was made by Wheeler and seconded by Cassity to adopt
the agenda.
Motion carried.
Motion was made Cassity and seconded by Huffaker to approve
the minutes of the previous meetings as written.
Motion carried.
Following a discussion of the bills, motion was made by Wheeler
and seconded by Cassity to approve payment of the bills presented,
totaling $15,044.88.
Motion carried.
No public comments were heard.
The solid waste manager reviwed recent correspondence received from WDNR regarding groundwater sampling plan modification approval, Alliant Energy regarding the microturbine installation & contribution to future oversight costs, Westside Elementary regarding the interest in future solid waste site activities, and responses to accounts receivable collection efforts.
Kerry Beghin, Sauk County Controller, presented a draft copy of a work plan for decisions and recommendations concerning the future of operations at the solid waste site. Discussion followed regarding tasks to be completed, stakeholder involvement options, timelines for plan completion, and potential future uses/activities at the solid waste site. Committee members agreed to provide their input to the plan by June 26, 2006. The solid waste manager was directed to consolidate and summarize Committee member input for discussion at a special meeting of the Committee to be held on June 30, 2006.
The solid waste manager summarized recent discussions he had with Supervisor Cassity concerning the potential for yard waste composting activities at the landfill site. Discussion followed regarding needs analysis for such a facility, local community options, transportation alternatives, and scope and range of possible yard waste composting or educational efforts. No action taken.
The solid waste manager reported that 2007 Clean Sweep applications
were due to WDATCP in mid-July. Following a discussion regarding
Clean Sweep program elements, Ag chemical program options,
grant funds available & competition for grants, likelihood
of receiving a grant & responsibilities for program implementation,
motion was made by Cassity and seconded by Wheeler authorizing
the solid waste manager to apply for a 2007 Household Hazardous
Waste Clean Sweep grant.

am. Motion was made by Haugen and seconded by Huffaker to adjourn.
