Baraboo Range Commisssion

The Baraboo Range Commission met in a regular session at 8:30 AM, January 25, 2006 at the Sauk County West Square Building in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Members present: Ashford, Hartmann, Kowalke, Persche, Statz, Steinhorst and Wenzel. Also present: Dave Tremble, Sauk County Planning and Zoning, and Audrey Parker.

Chairperson Ashford brought the meeting to order at 8:30 AM., and asked members to review the meeting agenda. Motion to adopt the agenda as presented by Hartmann, second by Steinhorst.

Ashford asked members to review minutes from the November 30, 2005 meeting. Motion to adopt the minutes by Steinhorst, second by Persche.

Staff Report

Tremble reported on the December 20, 2005 decision by the Sauk County Board to reject the proposed amendment to the Baraboo Range Protection Plan. Members discussed the current and future status of the funding allocated for use outside the BRNNL, and future options for its use.

Tremble reported that he had submitted a request for reimbursement to WisDOT in December for the Waldinger easement costs, and expected the payment within the next month. Five other applications for Stewardship grant funding have been submitted to the WDNR as well.

Tremble reported on a collaboration with Sauk County's conservation partners to create a hiking trail at the Merrimac Preserve dedicated to the memory of Roger Shanks.

Tremble reported that he had completed monitoring inspections on four properties recently.

Unfinished Business

Tremble reported that he had discussed the idea of including Baraboo Range protected properties on the map of Sauk County attractions published by the UW Extension with Jenny Erikson the UWEX Community Resource Development agent. Jen suggested working with Lynn Olsen in the Extension office, and that publication of a new map is probably a year away.

New Business

Tremble reported that the 2005 Annual Report will be available for Commission review at the next meeting.

Persche moved to convene a closed session, pursuant to s. 19.85 (1)(e): Deliberating or negotiating the purchase of public properties, the investing of public funds, or conducting other specified public business, whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require a closed session." For the purpose of discussing negotiations with private landowners. Second by Kowalke. Motion Carried unanimously.

The Commission convened in closed session. Members present for the closed session: Ashford, Hartmann, Kowalke, Persche, Statz, Steinhorst and Wenzel. Also present: Dave Tremble, Sauk County Planning and Zoning.

The Commission returned to open session immediately following the closed session.

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday February 22, 2006.

Motion to adjourn by Wenzel, second by Kowalke. Motion Carried.
