Roll call:

Present: (29) Alexander, Ashford, Borleske, Bychinski, Carlson, Cassity, Dippel, Endres, Fordham, Gaalswyk, Hartje, Haugen, Horenberger, Huffaker, Kriegl, Krueger, Meister, Montgomery, Netzinger, Sinklair, Sprecher, Stevens, Tollaksen, Volz, Wenzel, Wheeler, White, Wiese, Zowin. Absent: (2) Lehman and Stoeckmann.

Introductory remarks:

Chairperson Krueger thanked Board members for their attendance and expressed hope for a meaningful and productive meeting.

Budget Strategies:

Chairperson Krueger introduced Mr. Steve O'Malley, LaCrosse County Administrator, who spoke to the Board regarding budgeting and operational procedures in LaCrosse County.

6:55 - 7:10 p.m.

The Sauk County Budget Process: Kathryn Schauf, Administrative Coordinator, addressed budget procedures, namely:

  1. Budget timeline.
  2. Review of process changes.
  3. Budget priorities and policies.
  4. Tie in to strategic planning: Form 1, vision, mission and goals
  5. County financial position.

Discussion of County objectives: Chairperson Marty Krueger reviewed results of survey questions received from attendees at the recent Intergovernmental Meeting held on March 22nd as well as Board Supervisors' answers to questions posed for this meeting.

Discussion followed and it was determined to forward a categorized copy to Board members of the responses to question #2 (What would you like to accomplish before year end?) with instructions to rank in order of priority. The responses are to be returned to the Administrative Coordinator by May 1st and the information will be used to complete the "short term goals" portion of Form 1 for the Sauk County Board.
