Finance Committee

Others present: Kathy Schauf, Dale Jaedike, numerous representatives of area units of governments, County Board Supervisors, County department representatives

Chairperson Bychinski called the meeting to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 6:00 p.m.

The agenda was approved on a motion by Wenzel, second by Bychinski, and a unanimous vote of the Committee.

Introductions were made of the Committee and audience members in attendance. County Board Chairman Krueger made opening remarks and described the County's wish to gather input from area governmental units.

Joe Van Berkel gave a report summarizing the 2007 Clean Sweep program. A total of 850 Sauk County residents participated, 50,071 pounds of hazardous household waste was collected. Funding sources for future Clean Sweep events are in question.

Mark Steward of Planning and Zoning and Mark Heinrich of the DNR gave an update on flood plain zoning and mapping initiates.

Kathy Schauf, Administrative Coordinator, gave a presentation outlining the proposed 2008 Sauk County budget. Kriegl pointed out that her representations of the Sheriff's budget omitted the nearly $2.8 million that will be spent for utilities, maintenance and debt service for the law enforcement center. Kriegl further pointed out that the other departments that have their own buildings are charged for these expenses in their budgets.

Kathy Schauf gave a presentation on County owned property. Currently, the County owns 2206 of 544,640 acres. This included county forests and parks, land for county buildings such as office buildings, highway shop buildings, and health care center buildings. The county also owns land at the closed landfill, property which was acquired by tax deed, land supporting county communication towers, land used by the Tri-county airport, and land at the UW Baraboo Campus.

Assembly woman Sheryl Albers presented initiatives being pursued at the state level.

The meeting concluded with a round table discussion of a variety of items of interest to those in attendance.

Motion by Wenzel, second by Krueger to adjourn the meeting.
