Land Conservation Committee

Meeting called to order by Chair Wiese at 5:30 p.m. It was certified that the requirements of the open meeting law have been met. Present were Lehman, Wiese, Borleske, and Cassity from the Committee; Van Berkel and Pohle-LCD. Zowin and Prem were absent.

Adopt agenda:

Motion by Borleske/Cassity to adopt the agenda.
Motion carried, all in favor.

Adopt minutes of previous meeting:

Motion by Cassity/Borleske to adopt the minutes of the regular LCC meeting on March 8.
Motion carried, all in favor.

Public comment:

There were none.

Communications

Pohle is serving on the 2007 WLWCA Annual Conference planning committee and asked the Committe to give her suggestions for sessions at the conference.

Van Berkel presented the 2007 Soil and Water Resource Management Grant contract from DATCP to Wiese for his signature.

As requested at the March LCC meeting, the Southwest Badger RC&D newsletter, Badger Report, was provided to the LCC.

Review and approval of training events:

Motion by Borleske/Wiese to approve the list of training events.
Motion carried, all in favor.

Motion by Cassity/Wiese to approve Zowin and Borleske's attendance at the Working Lands Initiative session.
Motion carried, all in favor.

Review and approval of vouchers:

Voucher summaries were distributed to the Committee members. Motion by Borleske/Cassity to approve bills in the amount of $10,292.14.
Motion carried, all in favor.

There was discussion regarding holding a Clean Sweep program this year. In the future, the LCC encouraged holding it in two locations to be closer to Plain and Spring Green. It was noted that the rent has been paid at the Health Care Center.

Resolution recognizing Paul Dietmann for service:

Motion by Borleske/Lehman to support a resolution recognizing UW-Extension Ag Agent for his years of service to Sauk County.
Motion carried, all in favor.

Approval of attendance at National Watershed Conference in LaCrosse:

Van Berkel noted that Phil Hahn spoke to the LCC at a previous meeting encouraging LCD and LCC attendance at the conference. Committee members will be unable to attend. Motion by Cassity/Borleske to approve Vosberg and Van Berkel to attend the National Watershed Conference in May.
Motion carried, all in favor.

Selection of teacher scholarship recipient(s):

Pohle informed the LCC that there were two applicants for the teacher scholarships. Chasity Gabrielson is a third grade teacher at Baraboo Gordon L. Willson Elementary and Shelley Mordini is a teacher at the Baraboo High School. Motion by Lehman/ Borleske to approve Gabrielson and Mordini for teacher scholarships up to $250.

Selection of youth conservation camp scholarship recipient(s):

Pohle notified the Committee that Amy Speich from Reedsburg and Darin Krumenauer from Sauk City are interested in attending the youth camp to be held near Ladysmith. The $100 scholarship covers registration, meals, and lodging for four days. Motion by Borleske/Cassity to approve camp scholarships for Speich and Krumenauer.
Motion carried, all in favor.

Review and approval of Farmland Preservation Agreement-David Spahn:

Van Berkel noted that Spahn had been in the Farmland Preservation Program before. Motion by Borleske/Cassity to approve a 25-year contract for David Spahn.
Motion carried, all in favor.

Motion to adjourn until May 17 at 9:30 a.m. by Borleske/Cassity at 5:55 p.m.
