Public Health Board

Brock (DOH sanitarian for Southern Region)
Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by White and compliance with
the open meeting law was noted.
Moved by Haugen, seconded by Clement to adopt the agenda.
Motion carried.
Moved by Schlender, seconded by Clement to approve the agenda.

COMMUNICATIONS:
Muhlenbeck handed out two articles entitled: "Simple Truths About
Americas Uninsured" and "Trends in Premarital Sex in the United
States".
A price list of the various charges in the Health Department was discussed.
It was noted that the foot clinic cost went from $17.00 to $20.00 per visit
and was not reflected on the price list. Muhlenbeck will see that the form
will be updated.
BUSINESS ITEMS:
There were no business items to be discussed.
DEPARTMENTAL UPDATES:
- Moved by Haugen, seconded by Clement to add the monthly reports
to the minutes of the meeting. Motion carried.
- Moved by Schlender, seconded by Kreigl to approve paying the December
vouchers totaling $37,589.46 and $673 for January Vouchers.
Motion carried.
- Appearance by Karen Brock, DOH Sanitarian working in Sauk County.
Brock gave a report on what types of problems she has encountered
in the past 14 months. Brock also said that there is a pedodentist
in Madison that will see any child under six with problems and need to
see a dentist. Brock will send Muhlenbeck a pad of referrals so that
we can refer children to the dentist.
- Appearance by Michele Wolff, communicable disease nurse, giving
the Board Communicable Disease and Sexually Transmitted Disease
(STD)- statistics for 2006. Wolff compared 2006 to the past
6 years. STD's are on the rise. Discussion followed regarding the reasons
for this. Clement suggested that the loss of Planned Parenthood in the
County might account for some of the rise. Delong informed the Board
that she was looking into, at some point, starting a teen clinic at the
House of Wellness that will include teen education regarding STD's.Wolff
said that with the new Family Planning Waiver for MA, was a way for 15
- 30 year old women to get treatment.
- Haugen reported on the legislative issues in the Public Health Community.
Haugen and Bodendein also reported on the Continuum of
Care meetings that they attend representing Public Health.
Next Board of Public Health meeting is set for 02/14/07 at 6 p.m..
