UW Campus Commission Minutes

Baraboo/Sauk County Campus, 1006 Connie Road, Baraboo, WI - Executive Dining Room in the Joe Wankerl Cafeteria

Members Present: Mielke, Haugen, Geimer, Kivioja, Liston, Giese, and Huffaker
Members Absent: Wedekind
Others Present: Griffith, Janke and Pleger

Vice-Chairperson Haugen called the meeting to order at 9:00 A.M. and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was verified.

Motion by Kivioja, seconded by Geimer to approve the agenda for today's meeting, as mailed. Motion carried.

Motion by Geimer, seconded by Mielke to approve the minutes from the November 24, 2007 meeting, as mailed. Motion carried.

Communications:
None

Financial Report:
A balance sheet and revenue/expenditure report for the period 01/01/07 to 10/31/07 was distributed by C. Giese, City Clerk. The report indicated an unencumbered balance of $88,897.99.

Update on 2008 Budget:
The proposed budgets for both the City of Baraboo and Sauk County have each included a request in the amount of $76,685.00 for Baraboo/Sauk County UW operations.

Maintenance Report, Review and Payment of Bills:
R. Griffith presented the monthly report and list of bills. Motion by Huffaker, seconded by Geimer to approve the report and bills in an amount of $8,230.58. Motion carried. Griffith also informed Commission members new NCAA regulations will require the floor in the gymnasium to be stripped and repainted for use during the 2008 season. Pricing estimates in the range of $15,000 were obtained several years ago. Commission members instructed Griffith to seek current price quotes as well as contact neighboring schools to see if interest exists for group pricing.

Update on Heating System:
The boilers for the heating system have been installed and are operational.

Dean's Report:
Dean Pleger reported on the following:
* Campus officials are looking at how the state budget impasse will affect the UW system.
* Final enrollment on this Campus is 719, of which 450 are full time students; the consequences of a large enrollment are being felt on Campus.
* Summerset Theater has shown a profit this year and plans are in place to continue the
program during the summer of 2008.
* A public informational meeting on the Living and Learning Center was held. Strang &
Associates are working on final construction and operational cost estimates.
* A new entrance sign has been placed near the Campus driveway. A directional sign
is also needed at the corner of Connie Road and Highway 33; "Friends of the Campus"
have expressed interest in funding same.
* An informational and pictorial directory has been placed in the Umhoeffer
Building. Commission members were encouraged to stop by and view the sign, which
was constructed and installed by Robert Griffith and staff.

Update on Living and Learning Center:
Commissioner Huffaker and Dean Pleger gave a brief update on the Living and Learning Center, noting that residential facilities are a current topic of discussion at many campuses. Strang and Associates are in the process of drafting marketing materials for use in promoting the Living and Learning Center project.

Motion by Mielke, seconded by Giese to adjourn and set the next, regular meeting date for Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 9:00 A.M. Motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 9:30 A.M.
