Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Chair Wiese.
Certification of Open Meeting Notice
Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.
Approval of Agenda
Motion made by Zowin, second by Borleske to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting
Motion made by Borleske, second by Cassity to approve the minutes of the last meeting. Motion carried.
Correspondence
Lester Wiese received an invitation to the HCE spring Council for Thursday, April 24th.
Bills and Financial Report
A written summary was submitted to all members of the committee for approval of the April invoices. Motion by Borleske, second by Zowin to pay the bills. Motion carried.
Quarterly Reports (Varney)
Danielle Varney presented her 2009 plan-of-work to the committee. She also stated that Angela Zeihen has been a benefit to the WNEP program since coming onboard.
4-H Youth Development Staffing Opportunity
Dick Pederson joined the meeting via telephone.
Jessica Jens has been offered the Interim Director of Upham Woods, a 50% FTE position. UW-Extension will backfill the 50% time that she would be out of the Sauk County UW Extension office with a 4-H Program Advisor position for the duration of the appointment. The earliest the position would start would be July 1, 2008, and would give Sauk County a modest salary savings. The Ag & Extension Education Committee would have a say in the selection of the 4-H Program Advisor.
Motion by Zowin, second by Borleske to approve Jessica accepting the 50% Interim Director position starting July 1, 2008, with the understanding that Jessica would be available in Sauk County the entire week of the Sauk County Fair. Motion carried unanimously.
Budget Form 1
Copies of the completed Budget Form 1 will be supplied to the committee after approval from Kathy Schauf. Sue & Jenny have a meeting scheduled with Kathy.
Discussion and Possible Action on Attendance at WACEC State Conference
Motion by Cassity, second by Borleske to approve up to five members of the Ag & Extension Education Committee to attend the WACEC State Conference in Stevens Point in June. Motion carried.
Advisory Committee and Citizen Comments
Al Anderson:
Talked about what the new proposed committee structure might look like.
Al mentioned that he would be interested in being considered for one of the Advisory Committee members for the new UW Extension, Arts & Culture Committee.
Department Update
Denise reported on the Dairy Facility Tour (150 participants); working on getting the Holstein Association restarted - their next meeting will be April 30th - as well as getting the Jr. Holstein Association restarted; and looking to work with Land Conservation on nutrient management plans. Jessica talked about the letter that was placed in County Supervisors' boxes regarding the VISTA workers.
Next Meeting
The next regular meeting of the UW-Extension, Arts & Culture Committee will be on Thursday, May 22, 2008, starting at 9:00 AM in the ETN Room on the 3rd floor of the West Square Building.
