Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order at 9 AM by Chair Ashford.

Certification of Open Meeting Notice:
Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.

Approval of Agenda:
Motion made by Tollakson, second by Stehling to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting:
Motion made by Tollakson, second by Stehling to approve the minutes of the last meeting. Motion carried.

Communications:
Dale Jaedike had several thank yous from various people and organizatons.

Approval of UW Extension Department Contracts from July 1 - December 31, 2008:
Motion made by Huffaker, second by Stehling to approve the Sauk County UW Extension Agents' contracts. Motion carried.

Monthly Report/Review and Approval of Vouchers (UW Extension):
A motion was made by Huffaker, second by Tollakson to approve the UW Extension vouchers for the month of September in the amount of $2070.25. Motion carried.

UW Extension - Department Update:
A presentation was given by Sue Nagelkerk, UW Extension Family Living Educator, on two of her programs: Powerful Tools for Caregivers and the HCE Bookworm Project.

Danielle Varney, Wisconsin Nutrition Educator Program Coordinator, reported that Wisconsin had won the 2008 Outstanding Program Award for WNEP. She also reported on the Lake Delton Elementary School breakfast program. She noted that the number of children participating in the program has increased.

Approval of Out-of-State travel for Denise Brusveen, Sauk County Agricultural Agent
A motion was made by Tollakson, second by Stehling to approve out-of-state travel for Denise Brusveen to attend a Finpack (farm financial) program in East Lansing, Michigan on December 2-3, 2008 at no cost to the county.. Motion carried.

ARTS & CULTURE:

Monthly Report/Review and Approval of Vouchers
A motion was made by Tollakson, second by Huffaker to approve the September vouchers. Motion carried.

Approval of mini grants, grants, artist registry and historic registry
None

Report from Supervisor Huffaker on Economic Committee issues:
Huffaker reported that she had attended an Economic Committee meeting. Right now they are looking for ways to work with other committees and agencies. She also reported that they had worked on the Mission Statement.

Consider bids for design of new arts brochure and website:
Bids had been received from several businesses. Chair Ashford and Erickson, Sauk County UW Extension, met and decided that they needed to do something else as the bids were more than the committee wanted to spend. Jaedike discussed the in-house website. No decision was made. There was some discussion on the arts brochure. Jaedike also discussed this project, suggesting we might be able to do this in-house.

Progress report on WCA Conference table activities:
Jean Brew from the Wisconsin Dells Quilter group will be setting up a display of quilts. It was reported that a sign with the Sauk County logo was being made and that this sign can be used for any Sauk County events. Lynn Zick reported on the Taste of Sauk County that will be taking place with local vendors having taste tests of items such as - cheese curds, sausage, honey, flavored honies, sorghum, etc. The vendors will be there on Monday and at three different times.

Discuss need for volunteers and other administrative needs for the conference:
A discussion was held about the sign up sheet for supervisors to work at each shift. There will be a special meeting held on September 29 to work out the details.

Consider any proposals for special arts/humanities/historic preservation projects
None to consider.

Review & approval of grants:
The list of grants for the Arts Grants & the History/Humanities Grants were discussed. A motion was made by Tollakson and second by Huffaker to approve the amount
recommended for each grant. Huffaker sustained from voting on the Aldo Leopold Foundation Grant due to conflict of interest.

Sauk-Prairie Theater Guild - WI American Assn of Community Theaters Fest-$1,000.
Al Ringling Theater Friends - Lively Arts Series - $5,000.
River Arts, Inc. - Encore Studio Play "Real Life" - $5,000
UW Baraboo Public Relations - CEE - Middle School Univ. Performing Arts Workshop -
$750.00

History/Humanities

The total amount awarded is: $31,972.00

Next Meeting:
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 23 starting at 9 AM in the ETN Room of the West Square Building.
