The meeting was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 6:35 p.m.The agenda was approved on a motion by Dippel, second by Zowin, and a unanimous vote of the Committee.
Motion by Gaalswyck, second by Stevens to approve minutes from prior meeting on August 25, 2008. Motion carried.
Public Comment:
Ray Bolton, Village of Prairie du Sac and Rails to Trails. Request committee support in considering engineering study in Merrimac. Believe that the Merrimac bridge study is relevant to continuing to develop Rails to Trails.
Karna Hanna, update on participation by municipalities in Community Development Block Grant - Flood Relief Small Business. Each of the respective municipalities will be taking the request under consideration within the next month. Also, SCDC is working on survey's of those affected by the flood. Activities are on track to move
Virginia Metcalf, going on record to support Rails to Trails and support for the study of the Merrimac bridge.

Discussion and consideration of educational opportunities.
Economic and Community Development conference. Madison, September 24, 2008. Motion by Stevens, second by Lehman to pay mileage, per diem and registration for no more than two members. Motion carried. K. Hanna explained the four ways in which the Development Corporation encourages economic development in Sauk County to highlight the importance of developing entrepreneurial opportunities.
Working Lands Initiative. Stevens Point, September 29, 2008. Zowin will be registered through Land Conservation. Motion by Zowin, second by Dippel to approve attendance by Lehman (per diem, mileage and registration). Motion carried.
Consideration of an engineering analysis of the rail bridge Merrimac.- Ken Lucht
Postponed to the next regular meeting.
Consideration of contribution to planning for Spring Green for long term flood remediation study.
Discussion centered around the potential implications of funding this request. D. Stevens indicated his desire to assist in some way because of the County owned airport and forest within the Town. It was indicated that the solution needed to come from the affected town / village / municipality. County has participated in addressing the needs of all areas affected by the flood within Sauk County. The Town Chair will be contacted and it will be requested that the Town devise a request for funding.
Consideration of vision, mission and goals.
Motion by Lehman, second by Zowin, to approve the following as the committee mission, "To align and position the resources of County government to work cooperatively with partners to foster a climate which positively affects the growth of Sauk County's economy."
Member reports: Legal opinion on how member reports should be handled was read to ensure compliance with open meeting requirement. Members will submit specific agenda items for inclusion on the agenda from other oversight committees prior to discussion at the Economic Development Committee meetings.
