Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 9 AM by Chair Ashford

Certification of Open Meeting Notice

Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.

Approval of Agenda

Motion made by Wiese, second by Huffaker to approve the agenda. Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting

Motion made by Huffaker, second by Stehling to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of October 22, 2009. Motion carried.

Communications

A letter was received from the Lake States Railway Historical Association, Inc. thanking the committee for the "Good Idea" Grant in the amount of $255.98

SAUK COUNTY UW EXTENSION

Monthly Report/Review and Approval of Vouchers (UW Extension)

A motion was made by Stehling, second by Wiese to approve the vouchers for the month of October in the amount of $1,744.52. Motion carried.

UW Extension - Department Updates

Sandy Larsen, 4-H Youth Development Agent, reported that she was working on the annual 4-H event, Super Saturday, to be held on January 23, 2010. She also reported on the various 4-H fundraisers that have been held (Culver's Night and Bowling). The 4-H Trip/Award interviews have been held and delegates selected for the various awards and trips. She also explained that there will be a Vision to Action session with the Livestock Committee. Sue and Sandy will be working with the Amish population in the coming months.

Denise Brusveen, Sauk County Ag Agent, reported on the funds that are available for Wisconsin Dairy Farmers. She reported that Sauk County will have one farmer involved in this program and she will be working with that family. The purpose of this program is to get a team together for that family involving the vet, financial counselor, etc. The farmer needs to pay 10% of the cost and the rest will be paid by the funds available. This program is only available to 45 from the State of Wisconsin. She also reported on the various meetings that have and will be held dealing with the late corn crop harvest.

Sue Nagelkerk, Sauk County Family Living Educator, told of a very special training that will be held in early July by Barb Ingham, UW Food Specialist, on the Master Preserver program which trains people to be helpers for others in preserving food. She also told of some food safety issues with Thanksgiving and deer hunting. She sent two news releases to all media in Sauk County dealing with those issues.

Judy Lewis, Administration Assistant, in the UW Extension Office, announced that she would be retiring and her last day would be Jan. 29, 2010.

Discussion and possible action on recommendation of 2 new members of the Sauk County Drainage Board to be forwarded to the Circuit Court of Sauk County.

Marty Krueger, County Board Chairman, said that he had a request from E & L Committee for this committee to nominate three nominees for the Sauk County Drainage Board. This board is expanding its membership from three to five members. The names of the nominees are: Sheryl Albers Anders, Joel Gaalswyk and Don Hartung. A motion was made by Stehling, second by Huffaker to nominate these three people and their names forwarded to the Circuit Court of Sauk County. Motion carried.

ARTS & CULTURE

Discussion and possible action on Good Idea Grants

None

Update on Arts, Humanities & Historical preservation Grants

Ashford reported that some work has been done on revising the document for these grants including text changes, budget changes, different format, the critique for panelists was revised to reflect what the committee is looking for. At this time, the only item left to look at and revise is the evaluation document.

Discussion and possible action on funding for Sauk County Maps

A quote was gotten from Capital Newspapers to publish 15,000 maps for one year for the amount of $3,243.00. A motion was made by Wiese, second by Stehling to accept the amount of $3,243.00 to print 15,000 maps for 2010 Motion carried.

Consider request and possible action from the Wormfarm for upfront suport of the Smithsonia Exhibit in 2010.

Donna Neuwirth from the Wormfarm discussed the plans for the Smithsonian Exhibit (Key Ingredients-America by Food) to be in Sauk County Oct. 20 - Dec. 3, 2010. Reedsburg has been chosen to be the first stop for this traveling exhibit. She handed out a Plan of Action for the coming year. The have requested $4,000.00 to help in the early planning. After a discussion it was decided to award $3,000.00 to this project. A motion was made by Stehling, second by Huffaker to give them $3,000.00 for their early planning. Motion carried.

Consider appropriation and possible action for $500 in 2010 and 2011 for promotion of the Hwy. 60 Scenic Byway and setting the conditions of such appropriations.

After some discussion, there was no action taken at this meeting.
