Sauk County Library Board
May 18, 2017
Board members present: Sue Meise, Judy Ashford, Peggy Heidenreich, Terrance Slack, David Wernecke, and Barbara Morford.
Librarians present: Jean Berlin, Nick Studnicka, Meg Allen, Jennifer Endres Way, Carrie Portz, Raina Roloff, Kris Houtler, Emily Judd, Cathy Borck, Sue Kucher.
Judy Ashford called the meeting to order and verified compliance with the open meetings law at 9 a.m. Meise moved and Heidenreich seconded to adopt the agenda. Passed unanimously
Discussion concerned Board members need to review the Library Service plan before the next meeting. Morford moved and Slack seconded to approve the minutes. Passed unanimously
Martha Van Pelt, SCLS Director discussed upcoming library activities, including the all directors meeting, possible budget scenarios, new staff at SCLS, WLA in Wisconsin Dells, and website redesign. PLSR, public library services redesign, is studying how to best provide services in Wisconsin and how systems deliver services. (www.plsr.info)
Discussion – 2018 County Reimbursement Funding Proposal
2018 proposed County Reimbursement Funding includes $ 932,619 funds paid by municipalities based on equalized value, not based on usage Meise moved and Morford seconded to accept the budget proposal and move the reimbursement funding proposal to the county board for approval. Motion passed unanimously
Output performance measures provide information including statistics and expenditures, services and collections, and cost per circulation and programming for the libraries. More than 70,000 attendees at library programs and more than 1 million items circulated
Budget subcommittee – discussed and decided to include entire board to discuss at next meeting.

Discovering the Extraordinary Joy in Ordinary Moments: Tuesday, May 23 at 6:30 PM
Author and motivational speaker Keri Olson, a Baraboo native, will explore her journey with illness and loss, her search for joy in difficult times and her ultimate discoveries about the blessings that abound. She will read from her e-book, Time to Be: An Almanac of Short Essays About the Extraordinary Joy of Ordinary Moments, which was added to OverDrive, Wisconsin’s digital library in 2015...
Friends of the Library Book sale: Friday, May 19 from 9-5 and Saturday, May 20 from 9-1.
Strategic Plan: We are working collaborative with Sauk City Library on a joint Strategic Plan. This plan is expected to be finalized within the coming month.
Reptile Inspired Engineering: Monday, June 12 at 1 PM is the kickoff for our summer reading program events for school-age children.
Emily Judd – Sauk City -Recent Programs:
Our Cookbook Club, Bingo, and regular book club have all had increasing attendance.
The What’s it Worth? Antiques appraisal night with Mark Moran was a great program that I’d highly recommend. Special children’s programs—Playtime Productions performance of WWW.OZ! at the River Arts Center, Take Apart Day, and Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Teen Crime Mystery in partnership with the Sauk Prairie Police Department 5/11 at 5pm
Fancy Nancy Tea Party, Saturday 5/13 at 10am.
We’re very excited to host the book Launch for local author Darcy Miller’s middle grade novel-Roll!, which is being published through Harper Collins, 5/24 at 4:30pm
Working in cooperation with the Ruth Culver Library for our Summer Library Program.
Activities:
SCLS staff is putting the final touches on our joint strategic plan with Ruth Culver Library.
The board decided to donate our historic photo collection to the Tripp Heritage Museum in Prairie du Sac.
Working on Plans for a redesign of the library with Deb Haeffner at SCLS. We were also using Demco’s free design services, but it turned out these services are extremely limited for a library our size.
Reedsburg- Houtler reported on film discussions, author talks, master gardener program, Ipad learning session and their Friends meeting and fund raising.
Wisconsin Dells – Borck reported on coloring programs, knitting and crocheting program, their February art opening, online newspaper archives, baseball essay contest and their June book sale.
North Freedorm – Roloff reported on their egg hunt, paint night fund raiser, plant sale, and book and bake sale.
Spring Green- Portz reported a change in hours, a collection weeding project, classes, eclipse party, journaling program, art display, and craftsman furniture program.
Baraboo – Allen reported on interior design work, the Baraboo wine walk, staff training for an active shooter, book sale, needs assessment survey, new 3D printer, and summer library program party.
Plain – Studnicka reported on their purchase of 3 new computers, weeding project, new youth services staff, building improvements, program for seniors, movie and lunch, 2 new board members, Friends meeting, their long range strategic plan and storytimes.
