Hemlock Park

Fall leaves appearing over Hemlock Slough

Hemlock County Park has much to offer in almost 73 acres of property – offering picnic tables, grills and an ADA accessible bathroom. There is an unmarked hiking trail and access to fishing from many spots around the slough, including an ADA fishing pier and a boat ramp to launch a boat (electric motors only). The 22 acre slough provides opportunities to catch northern pike, largemouth bass and panfish. Archery and shotgun hunting are also available in this park. No muzzleloaders are allowed. There is ample parking and no entrance fee is required.

After a long wait, we are excited to announce that the Hemlock Dam project is complete! Below are some pictures showing the new dam, along with a picture of the old culvert. Please note, the slough is not yet full. We look forward to creating a master plan for Hemlock County Park. Stay tuned for updates!

Significant rain events during August and September in 2018 in Sauk County caused major flooding resulting in erosion to portions of the Hemlock Dam in the Township of LaValle. For public health and safety reasons, the Department of Natural Resources has directed the Sauk County Parks Department to draw down Hemlock Slough until corrective measures can be made. Please be advised that the low water levels at Hemlock Slough are intentional for public safety. The feasibility study for the Hemlock Dam can be found below. If you have further questions, please contact the Sauk County Parks Department at 608-355-4800. Thank you for your patience.
