Library Reports: Librarians in attendance LaValle Public Library – Natalie Jones
Friends group had their smoothie bike at the 400 trail celebration and then had it at their June story hour. It was greatly enjoyed by all age groups. They held a silent auction and raised enough money to sponsor a programmer the library brought in. Kids are beginning to return their summer reading challenge forms. Considering this is the first year of our revitalized Friends group, I am impressed with the accomplishments thus far.
Late June, we were one of the last libraries to go live with our new website.

Summer Programming: Our All Together Now theme has been visiting other countries through activities and presentations. In June, we started with T-Ball, Softball on 2 Wednesday mornings in June. We had a total of 58 people of all ages attend. There are about 20 countries (the U.S., Japan, and Mexico to name a few) that play baseball. Many came back to the library to cool off and check out books. The 3rd Wednesday was canceled due to air quality (smoke from the Canadian fires). We had 2 high school students who volunteered to help coach, pitch, and catch the ball and received community hours. Another high school student received community hours for shelving books, filling holds, prepping projects, and doing some program clean-up.
In July, we highlighted North America and South America with presentations on Chile and Argentina. Europe was next where kids could make Italian carnival masks and they made French crepes with assistance. We did Asia/Australia/Oceania this week, painted Japanese lanterns and had watermelon slushies from Thailand. We will finish with Africa next week and meet at the Big Cat Rescue for a guided tour. On one of the shelving units, we did a display from several countries that we posted on Facebook. At least 30 reading logs were picked up.
We also did prize drawings with donated coolers that we filled with summer fun items (picnic, crossword puzzle books, s’mores, beach fun). Anyone who attended an event or had a checkout put their name into the drawing. We managed to put 2 winners on our Facebook page.
Presenta7ons: Daniel Munoz Villa from Chile and Faith Blauert, a student who visited Argen<na, were 2 presenters for the Big Kids program. They will also be presenting on Monday, July 31, 2023 for the Gathering. We will also have Carolyn Dallmann presenting Part 2 on the Badger Ammunition Plant Experience on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023 at 10:15 AM – 11:30 AM.
RECOLLECTION WISCONSIN: Shane Harvey finished the Donna Lange pictures from Facebook. I wrote up an inventory of stored history items, and Margo Busser worked on scanning photos. Shane also refurbished a shelf for the hall to display local history items and installed LED lights in the unit.. RFID TAGGING: Getting set up to do this. Will receive training soon.
BOOKS/DVDs: Entering a new Large Print Faith Series by Lori Copeland and also the new book written by Anderson Cooper titled Vanderbilt: The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty.
Update on building: A letter by the Village Clerk-Treasurer was sent to ADCI. Tom Holtz of HBI looked at the building and asked ADCI for the building trusses plans that should be public record. An evaluation continues as more than the installation of the construction expansions joints will need to be addressed. The real issue of the quality of the rafters remains. It is still an ongoing conversation as to when the building will get fixed.
Library Board: New board member Kristen Kragin and new Circulaton policy is being reviewed
Spring Green Community Library, Emily Whitmore
- The Spring Green Community Library has purchased a starter collection of Wonderbooks. We were able to do this with funding from our Friends of the Library group. Patrons have responded very positively to the additions, which we know because they are rarely in the building long before they leave again!
- The Spring Green Art Fair was June 24 and 25 this year. And the Library hosted the Children’s Tent. We did this with the help of a grant from the River Valley Arts group. We saw over 150 people, and had a blast doing some crafts, even with the evevitable heat and rain.
- The Summer Reading Program is going well! The children participating have, so far, read for 21, 504 minutes! We also have a handful of adults and teens that have taken on the alphabet challenge, and seem to be enjoying it!
- We enjoyed a great program from Avian Connections in July. This was a program in collabora:on with Meadows Assisted Living and Memory Care. Kids and adults alike really enjoyed seeing some birds as well as learning more about them and how we can help them.
- The Teen Services Librarian will be leaving the Library as of August 16.
- We are also looking for a part-:me Youth Services Librarian currently
