Minutes

Board Members Present:  Barb Morford, Sue Meise, Terry Slack, Joan Fordham, Craig Braunschweig, Pat Andreessen

Others Present:  Carrie Portz, Katie Schofield, Nicholas Studnicka, Cathy Borck, Lauren White, Emily Judd, SueAnn Kucher, Raina Roloff, Martha VanPelt

1.  Braunschweig called the meeting to order and verified compliance with open meetings law

2.  Meise moved agenda approval, second by Morford

3.  Slack moved approval of Jan 22 minutes, second by Andreessen

4.  SCLS report by Van Pelt

5.  2020-2024 Service Plan Update reviewed by Kucher.  Motion to approve as presented by Slack, second by Morford

6.  Budget discussion led by Kucher.  Motion to set up Budget sub-committee by Andreessen, second by Morford.  Sub-committee members named: Fordham, Slack, Kucher, Borck, Schofield & Braunschweig.  Meeting scheduled 6/6/2019, 4pm, Kilbourn Library.

7.  Library Director reports

North Freedom – Annual egg hunt moved from park to school & hosted over 500 people.  Early June will hold annual book sale; a donor will match proceeds up to $200.  Library Board is undertaking strategic plan and space needs assessment.

Reedsburg – Nearing completion of construction and reorganization of Youth Services Area and Archives.  Working on SPL planning including recruitment of YS Assistant & Circulation Assistant to fill vacancies.  Friends of the Library donated proceeds of January book sale and matching funds to Lavalle Library.

Sauk City – Library received $1 million donation for new building.  New space will be the George Culver Community Library.  Expected to move in Spring of 2020.  SKC went fine-free in March.  Added Kanopy movie streaming.  Their hotspots are in high demand; switching to Sprint as provider. Hiring PT YS librarian & will be hosing author showcase event.

Prairie du Sac – Library went fine free in March.  Hosting collection of oral histories on Recollection WI; Programs include Muffins for Mom & Saturday Storytime.  Has an intern through WI DVR for 90 days working on inventory.  Undertaking weeding in NF collections.

Wisconsin Dells – Hosting Baseball essay contest with Brewer tickets as prize.  Open house at Frank Fischer Sr. Center in Lake Delton brought in 45 people.  SLP will start 6/7. Programs include Mascot Day, petting zoo, John Heasley, Upham Woods presentation, magician & more.  Working on Recollection WI collection; going fine free, weeding, recruiting staff position & hosting booksale.

Plain – Kicking of SLP on 6/1.  Combined promotion with Spring Green & Lone Rock libraries.  Programs include author Alan Green, kids DIY stepping stones & final Sr  movie/lunch for the season.

Rock Springs – Currently operating out of St. John Church.  Hosting weekly storytime & afterschool program.  Hosting Adult Book discussion & SLP begins June 18.  Mural project with grant from WI Arts Board has been changed to be done on movable panels.  Village working on CBDG grant & selection of site for new building.

Spring Green – Collaboration with high school forensics team to host poetry slam for kids & adults.  Collaboration with Arcadia books for read/watch event for Children’s Book Week.  Programming includes grant from WI Space Grant Consortia to host programs throughout the summer, Circle of Courage group for parents of special needs children/adults; 10 minute play contest.  Grant funds from Alliant Energy for 1000 books Before Kindergarten group, Fostering leopard gecko through Friends of Scales rescue group.  Carrie Portz leaving for another opportunity.  Last day is 6/2.

8.  July meeting set for Tuesday, July 16, 9am, at Kilbourn Library.  Motion to adjourn by Morford, second by Fordham
