UW Extension, Arts and Culture Committee

Minutes of the Regular Meeting December 14, 2016

Members Present:     Judy Ashford, John Dietz, Donna Stehling, Chuck Spencer, Andy Andrews, Alan Anderson

Members Absent:       None

UWEX Staff Present: Jen Erickson, Meg Sage, Morgan McArthur, Sue Nagelkerk

Others Present:          Matt Hanson

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM @ Chair Ashford.

Certification of Open Meeting Notice

Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met. 

Approval of Agenda

Motion made by Stehling, second by Spencer to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.  All in favor.

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting

Motion made by Spencer, second by Dietz to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of November 9, 2016.  Motion carried.  All in favor.

Public Comment:  None.

Communications:  Correspondence shared. 

Review Budget and Approval of Vouchers:

UW Extension

Erickson reviewed budget; savings in 2016 due to staff vacancies.  Motion made by Spencer, second by Andrews to approve the November 2016 UW Extension invoices in the amount of $2,550.61.  Motion carried. All in favor.

Arts & Culture

Budget reviewed.  No expenses for November 2016.  Received 2 of the 3 $1,500 installments (repayment) from Al Ringling; last $1,500 is expected in December.  Amount will be a carry-forward into 2017.

Departmental Updates

UW Extension

Successfully completed accounting audit of UW Extension

Capitol Connections 2017 – Save the Date, Thursday, April 2017 in Madison – chance to visit with legislatures and support UW Extension

UW Extension 2016 Annual Reporting with Matt Hanson will be at January 11 meeting.  Discussed format with committee; format will be restructured to include more open discussions.

Arts & Culture

2017 AHHP grants are in process; increased marketing

Discussion/possible action, resignation of Susan Nagelkerk, Sauk County Family Living Educator:

Nagelkerk resigned with a last date of employment being January 3, 2017.  Plaque presented by Matt Hanson, UW Extension Southern Regional Director.

Discussion/possible action, resolution honoring Susan Nagelkerk, Sauk County Family Living Educator for 18 years of faithful service to the people of Sauk County:

Motion made by Stehling, second by Dietz to approve resolution honoring Sue Nagelkerk, Sauk County Family Living Educator for 18 years of faithful service to the people of Sauk County.  All in favor.

Discussion of nEXT Generation, future of ANRE, FLE, 4-H & Youth Development positions- Matt Hanson, Southern Regional Director:

Hanson updated committee on nEXT Gen progress.  Workgroups will share preliminary report in early February with a timeline to finalize by July. 

Shared report of Sauk County Ag Educator visioning session from 2012 which addressed challenges, opportunities and priority issues at that time. 

Stehling, Spencer and Al Anderson will work on a proposal to submit to the nEXT Gen work group.

Agent Report: Sue Nagelkerk, Family Living Educator

Nagelkerk reported on three important programs that she would like our committee to continue to support: 

 Home Community Education (HCE) which includes Bookworms
 Trauma Informed Care
 Cancer Clear and Simple which will not continue without an Extension partner.  Committee suggested that we consider hiring someone to maintain the Cancer Clear & Simple program until new Family Living Educator is hired.  Keri Olson suggested to contact; Nagelkerk will inquire and inform committee.

The next Regular meeting will be Wednesday, January 11, 2017, held in Room 213 of the West Square Building @ 9:00 AM

Motion made by Stehling, second by Dietz to adjourn the meeting at 10:20AM.  Motion carried.  Meeting adjourned.  All in favor.
