SAUK COUNTY RECEIVES BUDGET AWARD

     BARABOO, WISCONSIN; July 24, 2013 – Sauk County government has been recognized by The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. Sauk County received the award for the commitment of the Board of Supervisors and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. 

     In order to receive the award, Sauk County had to satisfy nationally recognized budget presentation guidelines that assess the budget in four categories: as a policy document, financial plan, operational guide and communications device.  Budget documents were required to have a “proficient” rating in all four categories, as well as the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories. 

     “We are honored to receive this prestigious recognition for our budgeting presentation,” said Sauk County Administrative Coordinator Kathy Schauf.  “Sauk County’s Accounting Department staff is to particularly be commended for its outstanding work in preparing the budget documents for the benefit of our residents.  One key criterion that the GFOA uses is the budget’s ability to communicate the complexities of a $75.9 million budget so that it is understandable and transparent. ”

     The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving more than 17,800 government finance professionals throughout North America.  The GFOA’s Distinguished  Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program for governmental budgeting.  Those entities that receive the award have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and serve as an example for other governments throughout North America.
