Sauk County Receives The Wisconsin County Mutual Overall Best Loss Control Program Award

Sauk County was awarded the 2010 Best Overall Loss Control Program from the Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation (WCMIC). Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation awards this honor annually to the County that has obtained the best loss control rating and has displayed a strong loss control program. Sauk County created it loss control program in 1996 and it has been under the direction of Tim Stieve, Administrator of Emergency Management, Buildings and Safety and Carl Gruber, Safety/Risk Manager and is overseen by the Sauk County Board of Supervisors Property and Insurance Committee.

Sauk County’s Loss Control program has established a comprehensive variety of workplace safety programs and trainings that not only covers the requirements of the various State and Federal Regulatory agencies, but also expands upon and beyond those requirements. These efforts assist in sustaining a safe work environment and a safety conscious staff. Furthermore, the Emergency Management, Buildings & Safety Department is responsible for managing the county’s Workers Compensation, Liability and Property Insurance coverage, which includes obtaining insurance bids, investigating and handling of claims, prompt filing of claims and monitoring of claims from start to finish. These efforts help in maintaining a low cost of insurance as well as preventing losses that never happen from creating a safety conscious environment. Additionally duties include, but are not limited, to overseeing the Fuel Storage Tank Compliance, ADA Polices, assisting with Employee Wellness Programs in conjunction with the Health Department and Personnel Department, Employee/Intern Driver Programs, as well as Drug Testing in accordance with the Department of Transportation and Federal Transportation Agency.

Sauk County continually receives numerous inquiries from other counties and municipalities about our training and safety programs in addition to our accident reporting and investigation policies and procedures.

Sauk County’s program was awarded the 2000 Corporate Safety Award from the Wisconsin Council of Safety and the Department of Workforce Development has recognized Sauk County’s with the Outstanding Achievement Award for the last 9 years. This is the second time that Sauk County has been presented the Best Overall Loss Control Program from Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation, having also obtained this designation in 2000.
