Thursday, January 26, 2017 – 9:00 a.m.
1. Meeting called to order and certified Open Meeting notice by Capt. Mike Stoddard.
Members in attendance:

Jeff Spencer – Sauk County Sheriff

2. Motion by Grimsled, seconded by Meegan to adopt the agenda.

3. Motion by Grimsled, seconded by Meegan to approve minutes of the previous meeting.

4. Correspondence:
Capt. Stoddard read a card of gratitude and thanks to the Sheriff’s Department from the Schliekau Family.
5. Public Comment:
J. Meegan questioned the number of vehicles registered in the City of Baraboo noted in a recent article in the Baraboo News Republic regarding a proposed Wheel Tax. M. Stoddard will research.
6. Old Business:
Lt. Terry Spencer continues to work with the Sauk County Highway Department to improve parking issues at Pewitt’s Nest located on CTH W.
7. New Business:
M. Stoddard has concerns regarding a passing zone on STH 33 west of Coon Bluff Road. He presented aerial footage of the passing zone and requested DOT to consider removing passing zone for west bound traffic. B. Byom will verify the passing zone with DOT.
G. Grimsled requested DOT to re-address speed zone at southbound USH 12 and Gasser Road intersection. Speed limit increases from 35 to 45 mph just prior to the intersection. B. Byom will check the zones that mark increase.
K. Voelker inquired on who to contact when school bus drivers report poor road conditions during storm event. M. Stoddard responded to continue to contact Sheriff Dispatch and they will contact party responsible.
8. Review Sauk County Quarterly Reports & Statistics:
M. Stoddard reported three fatalities for 4th quarter. Eleven fatalities for 2016.
Reviewed accidents factors. Discussion followed regarding inattentive driving.
9. Review WisDOT Quarterly Reports & Statistics:
B. Bott reported on crash data. Passenger deaths are way up; not wearing a seatbelt could be the factor.
Reviewed Community Maps trends and Sauk County Profile statistics.
Reviewed grants available, i.e. Task Force and Sector grants. Recommends using Community Maps to justify grant request.
J. Spencer inquired about status of Multi-County Grant. B. Bott replied that grant will go thru in March.
Discussion followed regarding the success of Bar Buddies in the Baraboo and Sauk County area. Ridership is up, but grant funding decreased.
10. Transportation Safety Report & Highway Safety Input.
B. Byom will report on 2017 construction schedule at the next TSC meeting.
G. Grimsled asked if the USH 12 bypass speed limit will increase upon completion. B. Byom stated the speed limit will go up. Completion date for the USH 12 bypass is set for September 2017.
J. Meegan inquired how the south-end of the bypass will connect with existing USH 12. B. Byom will bring plans at next TSC to give an overview.
