Purpose

RESOLUTION TO CONDUCT COUNTYWIDE ADVISORY REFERENDUM ON AMENDING UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION TO RECOGNIZE RIGHTS OF UNBORN PERSONS AND ON PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION PROHIBITING STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDING OF ANY ORGANIZATION RECEIVING OR PROVIDING VALUABLE CONSIDERATION FOR ACQUISITION, RECEIPT OR TRANSFER OF FETAL TISSUE

Background

The United States Declaration of Independence states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  Since the United States Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade, more than 50 million potential Americans have been denied the very basic right to pursue life.

 The federal government has laws banning the sale of human body parts, but some abortion clinics have engaged in this practice as a means of supplementing their business.  Since coming to light in 2014, Congress has taken no action.

 In order to determine whether the people of Sauk County support the unalienable Rights of the unborn, and denounce the desecrating practice of selling the body parts of aborted babies, the County Board will conduct a countywide advisory referendum, pursuant to Wis. Stat. 59.52(25), in the Fall Election on November 6, 2018.
