Q:  Where can I see open opportunities at Sauk County and apply?

A:  Sauk County will only accept online applications for open positions that we are actively recruiting for. To view all open positions and apply, please visit our job posting site.

Q:  What is important to know when completing the application?

A.     It is important to be as complete as possible-

  • You must complete a separate application for each vacancy.  The application you submit for a position cannot be used for other vacancies.
  • All blanks on the application must be completed.
  • The application is due back on or before the published date.  We do not accept late applications.
    The deadline for each position is listed in all job postings or announcements.
  • It is advisable to attach a resume.
  • Be sure to sign and date the bottom of the form.

Q:  What if I am interested in a job that is not open at this time?

A:    We only accept applications for jobs listed on the website. If you are interested in a position that is not currently accepting applications, you can sign up for our job interest cards. Here, you are able to select the type(s) of position(s) you are interested in and subscribe to Sauk County openings. When a new opening occurs in a category you selected, you will receive an email notifying you of the position.

Q:  I am having difficulties logging in or applying. To whom should I talk?

A:   Sauk County uses a vendor, NEOGOV, for our application system. For difficulties applying or logging in, please call the NEOGOV Applicant Support line at 1-855-524-5627.

Q:  How long do you keep my application on file?

A:   Your application is good only for the position which you applied. You will need to fill out a separate application for each position you are interested in.

 

The Selection Process

Q:  I have submitted my application, now what?

A:   Most hiring managers review applications after the posting close date. Once they have reviewed applications, you will receive an email indicating if you will move forward with the process or not.

Q:  How will I know when the position has been filled?

A:   You will be notified in writing for each position you applied for.   The hiring process could take 4 weeks or more.

Q:  How long do you keep my application on file?

A:   Your application is good only for the position which you applied. You will need to fill out a separate application for each position you are interested in.

Q:  I have been selected to test. What should I expect?

A:   Each position and department have different criteria for testing. Some do not test at all. Carefully review your invitations to test to verify testing specifics. Please give our office a call at 608-355-4887 if you have any additional questions or need to request an accommodation.

Q:  I have been selected for an interview. What should I expect?

A:   Most interviews have a panel of interviewers. This can range from 2-4 individuals consisting of the hiring manager, department head, department supervisors, an employee currently in the role or a similar one and a representative from the Human Resources department. The panel will have a prepared set of questions, and some may take notes to remember you.

Q:  How does a second interview differ from the first?

A:   Every department is a little different, so do not be afraid to ask. Most second interviews allow you to tour/see the unit/department and introduce yourself to some of the other employees. There may be a set of formal questions, or they may rely on any questions that you have for the position. Other departments will organize the second interview like the first one.

Q:  I have not heard back yet, should I be worried?

A:   Sometimes there are unexpected delays in the hiring process. You can always reach out to check on the status of the process. We always get back to candidates and applicants regardless of our hiring decision.
