2022 Respect for Law Ceremony

NEWS RELEASE

2022 Respect for Law Ceremony

The 2022 Sauk County Respect for Law Day observance will be held on Monday, May 16 at 8:30 a.m. on the west side (Broadway Street) of the historic Sauk County Courthouse.  The event is held each year in conjunction with National Police Week and honors current and past public safety personnel who serve Sauk County in law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services.  The public is invited to attend this outdoor event, which will include brief speeches and ceremonious elements honoring those who served and continue to enhance public safety in Sauk County.

At this year’s event, we will be unveiling plans for renovations and the construction of a new outside memorial honoring those who died in the line of duty.  The current outdoor memorial was built in 1986 and lists the names of 6 area law enforcement officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

We will also be adding the names of 8 first responders to the memorial wall inside the Courthouse.  Dedicated in May 2001, the “Wall of Honor” was placed inside the Courthouse by the Baraboo Optimist Club, a group who continues to support this event and local public safety.  Joining the 340 men and women already memorialized on the wall will be:

  • Linus Ballweg, Sauk City Fire Department
  • Thomas “Tom” Webb, Delton Fire Department
  • James “Jim” Steyer, Delton Fire Department
  • Eugene “Jim” Sobojinski, Delton Fire Department
  • Scott Simonds, Sauk County Sheriff’s Office
  • Mary Andrews, Sauk County Sheriff’s Office
  • Gary Weiss, Plain Fire Department
  • Charles “Chuck” Kissack, Rock Springs Fire Department

Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to the County Board Room in the Sauk County West Square Building for light refreshments and conversation.
