4 Injured In Amish Buggy/Vehicle Crash

On June 28, 2015 at 3:53 pm, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 emergency call for a traffic accident involving a motorhome and an Amish horse buggy on STH 154 north of Hillpoint in the Town of Washington. 

Eric R. Leis, age 51 of North Freedom was east bound on STH 154  operating his 1992 Chevrolet motor home,  pulling a horse trailer, when after cresting a hill struck an Amish horse drawn buggy being operated by Henry F. Miller, age 65 of Hillpoint.  There were three passengers riding inside the buggy.    Injured in the accident was Ruth Miller, age 33 of Arthur, Illinois.  Ruth was Med-Flighted to the UW Hospital in Madison.   Henry, his wife Wilma, age 64 and daughter Marie age 27, were transported by Reedsburg Ambulance to Reedsburg Area Medical Center for their injuries.    Leis was not injured in the accident.  The highway was closed for four hours.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Reedsburg Ambulance Service, Hillpoint Fire /EMS, Cazenovia Fire, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Sauk County Highway Shop.   The accident still remains under investigation at this time by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
