Burglaries
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office has concluded an investigation of several burglaries that occurred in September and October of 2012. A Baraboo man, identified as Anthony Keepers, age 27 confessed to burglarizing several homes in the Lake Delton and Baraboo areas.
Keepers admitted to breaking into 13 homes in the Town of Delton while armed with a handgun in October of 2012. Keepers used forced entry in a majority of the break ins, though some of the homes were unlocked.
Keepers was suspected in 4 burglaries in the Baraboo/West Baraboo area, of which included the Town of Baraboo town hall. Keepers confessed to three of the four burglaries after DNA located at one of the crime scenes was linked to him.
Keepers also told Sauk County detectives that he had committed thefts and burglaries in the Wisconsin Dells and Lacrosse area, which led those jurisdictions with information into unsolved cases.
On October 7th, 2012 Keepers had been involved in a traffic crash on CTH T and CTH A in the town of Delton, minutes after burglarizing a home in the city of Baraboo. Keepers, who was on parole, fled the scene into the woods prior to the deputies arrival. Over the course of two days, Keepers admitted to breaking into several houses, making his way back to Wisconsin Dells.
Keepers was taken into custody by Sparta Police on October 8th, 2012 after Keepers led authorities on a high-speed chase into La Crosse County in a stolen Toyota Avalon before losing control and flipping his car. Evidence in the car led to information to his involvement in burglaries that occurred in Sauk County.
The investigation has been sent to the Sauk County District Attorneys Office for review and charges. Keepers still remains in the Monroe County Jail.
Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Baraboo Police Department, Wisconsin Dells Police Department and Sparta Police Department.
Sauk County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to always secure their homes and vehicles and to report suspicious activity. Residents can do so by calling 608-355-4495 or 1-888-TIP-SAUK.
