STH 58 VEHICLE vs. ATV CRASH

On May 5, 2018 at approximately 2:18pm the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a vehicle versus ATV crash on STH 58 near CTH G in the Town of Ironton. Sauk County Sheriff’s Deputies, Cazenovia Area Ambulance Service, the Cazenovia Fire Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources were sent to the scene.

The initial investigation showed that two ATV’s and a 2008 Chevrolet Van were traveling eastbound on STH 58 approaching the intersection of STH 58 and CTH G. The ATV’s which were traveling in front of the van began to slow and attempt to turn North onto CTH G.  The van began a passing maneuver as the ATV’s were making the northbound turn and struck one of the ATV’s which was being occupied by an adult male and adult female. The ATV overturned and both occupants were ejected from the ATV. The van entered the ditch and struck a road sign and an unoccupied parked vehicle. The male occupant of the ATV was transported to Reedsburg Area Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The female occupant of the ATV was transported to Reedsburg Area Medical Center and later transported via air to UW-Madison by UW Hospital Med Flight with serious injuries.

The operator of the van was issued a citation for passing in no-passing zone. The operator of the ATV was issued a citation for illegal operation of an ATV or UTV on or in the vicinity of a highway.

This crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
