May 26, 2012

On May 25, 2012 at 3:00 AM, a Sauk County Deputy came across a bicyclist, later identified as MARCUS P. EBBERS, age 27 of Burlington Wisconsin, heading south on USH 12 near Lehman Road in the town of Baraboo. EBBERS was riding his bike against traffic and without any lamps lit for night riding. While investigating the reason as to why EBBERS was riding illegally on the roadway, the Deputy observed laundry tags commonly used by the Department of Corrections on the EBBERS’ clothing. While questioning EBBERS about the laundry tags, EBBERS attempted to flee the Deputy and had to be tased in order for the officer to take control of EBBERS.

While in custody, it was later learned that the EBBERS was an escaped prisoner from the Department of Corrections, St Croix Corrections Center in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Ebbers had escaped earlier in the week.

EBBERS was transported to the Sauk County Jail currently awaiting a bond hearing for resisting arrest and escape.
