On Sunday September 8, 2013 at approximately 1:30 A.M. Department of Natural Resources Park Rangers working at Devil’s Lake State Park contacted a male subject in a vehicle that was parked in the North Shore parking lots for being in the state park after hours.  After talking with the subject briefly, the subject fled in his vehicle back into a series of dead end parking lots and then turned his vehicle around.  The Park Rangers drove a short distance and observed the vehicle coming at them head on, at a high rate of speed.  After nearly striking the Park Rangers vehicle, the subject crashed his vehicle into a tree.  Emergency medical services were activated and the Baraboo Fire Department and Baraboo Ambulance Service responded.  The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.  The subject was transported to St Clare Hospital and later transferred to University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison and is in critical condition.  The Sauk County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident with the assistance from the Department of Natural Resources.  The 21 year old male subject is from Pleasant Prairie, WI and has not been identified pending notification of his family.
