Driver arrested twice in same day for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated

On March 6th, 2019 at 3:48pm The Sauk County Communications Center received a call reference a reckless driving complaint traveling eastbound on U.S. 14 in the Township of Spring Green. A Silver Nissan Altima was reportedly speeding and operating in the on-coming lane of traffic, nearly striking several vehicles.

A Spring Green Police Officer located the Silver Altima and conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 14 west of State Highway 23. The operator of the vehicle was Danielle Walkey, age 33 of Beloit, WI. A Sauk County sheriff’s deputy responded and during the initial contact noted signs of impairment. During the subsequent investigation and performance on field sobriety tests, evidence of impairment was observed. Walkey was cited for OWI 1st offense, which is a traffic forfeiture. Walkey was released to a responsible party.

On March 6th, 2019 at 6:29pm The Sauk County Communications was notified of a one-car rollover accident with injuries on Jones Road, approximately 1.5 miles east of State Highway 23 in the Township of Spring Green. A vehicle reportedly left the roadway and was occupied with two people. Spring Green Fire and EMS responded to the scene along with Spring Green Police and Sauk County Sheriff deputies.

A subsequent investigation learned that the driver, Danielle Walkey, age 33 of Beloit, WI was operating a 2008 Silver Nissan Altima eastbound on Jones Road, when it left the roadway and struck a barbwire fence. Walkey and a male passenger left the accident scene and were located by police about an hour later on Neuhesiel Rd, about .4 miles from the original accident scene. Both Walkey and passenger were claiming injuries and requesting an ambulance. Spring Green EMS transported Walkey to a local hospital and the male passenger was transported to UW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Walkey was cited for Operating While Intoxicated causing Injury, Hit and Run-causing injury, failure to report an accident, failure to maintain control and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Spring Green Police Department, Spring Green Fire Department, Spring Green EMS and Georges Towing assisted the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
