Fatal Crash-Town of Sumpter
On Sunday, January 19, 2024, at approximately 3:52pm, the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a single vehicle crash in the area of US Highway 12 and Groth Road in the Town of Sumpter.
Deputies, Fire, and EMS responded to the scene. Upon arrival, a deputy located the vehicle and it’s two occupants off the roadway in a wooded area. The operator, a 39 year old female from Dubuque, IA, was deceased, and a juvenile passenger was trapped inside with serious injuries. The passenger was freed from the vehicle and transported to UW Hospital via Med Flight.
From roadway evidence and witness statements it is believed that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Sauk City Fire Department, Sauk Prairie Ambulance, and the Sauk County Coroner’s Office.
No further information regarding this crash will be released at this time.
