Fatal Crash on STH 23 at CTH W, Sunday, March 31, 2019

On Sunday, March 31, 2019, at about 3:51 p.m., the Sauk County Communication Center was advised of a two car crash at the intersection of STH 23 and CTH W, in the township of Westfield.  There was reported to be at least two people injured as well as a dog.  Loganville Fire Department, Loganville First Responders, Reedsburg Ambulance, Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, and Med Flight all responded.

The initial investigation indicated that a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero, operated by Janette R. Accola, age 87 of Baraboo, was traveling west bound on CTH W and pulled out in front of a 2009 Chrysler minivan.  The Chrysler, operated by Timothy G. Houk, age 44 of Marshfield, was traveling north bound on STH 23 and collided with the Oldsmobile.

Accola and a dog riding in her car suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by Sauk County Coroner Greg Hahn.  Houk suffered non-life threatening injuries.  Both operators were wearing seatbelts and neither alcohol nor speed are believed to be factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sauk County Reconstruction Team.  Traffic was detoured around the scene for about two and half hours.
