Highway 12 Crash

On June 5, 2012 at approximately 9:35am the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a two vehicle head on crash on USH 12 just south of CTH PF in the Township of Prairie Du Sac. Sheriff’s Deputies, Sauk Prairie Police Officers, Sauk City Fire Department, and Sauk Prairie Ambulance were immediately sent to the scene.
Upon arrival, Emergency Responders found a head on crash with four people injured, three appearing to be severe. Additional resources were requested. A Reedsburg Ambulance was in the area and was requested to assist and an additional ambulance from Baraboo District Ambulance was requested. UW Hospital was contacted and two helicopters were requested to respond to the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1997 Nissan, operated by Mary L. Schreiner, age 53, of Baraboo, WI, was northbound on USH 12 when it crossed over the centerline and struck a 2000 Chevrolet van operated by Merle C. Hasheider, age 86, of Prairie Du Sac, WI. Schreiner and her passenger, Gari L. Jessick, age 36, of Waunakee, were transported to UW Hospital by Med Flight Helicoptors. Merle Hasheider was transported to Sauk Prairie Hospital. A passenger in the Hasheider vehicle, Lucy E. Hasheider, age 79, of Prairie Du Sac, WI, was pronounced dead at the scene by the UW Hospital Med Flight Doctor.
The following agencies responded and provided assistance with this incident: the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, the Sauk Prairie Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Sauk County Highway Department, Sauk County Coroner, Sauk City Fire Department, Sauk Prairie Ambulance, Reedsburg Ambulance, Baraboo Ambulance, and UW Hospital Med Flight. This incident remains under investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office and the Sauk County Coroner’s Office.
