Special News Release

On October 30, 2010, at 8:41 PM, the Sauk County Communication Center received a phone call reporting a possible lost hunter.  Thomas J Wicks of Stoughton, WI advised that he had been hunting with his friend Daniel Wahlin, also of Stoughton.  They had agreed to meet at their vehicles at 6:30 PM but Wahlin had not returned.

Upon the deputies arrival they determined that Wahlin was hunting on land he owned off of Marble Quarry Road in the Township of Bear Creek, Sauk County.  Wicks guided several deputies into the area he believed Wahlin had been hunting.  They were able to locate several different tree stands that Wahlin had placed on the property.  As they searched this area Wahlin was heard yelling which allowed the deputies to locate him at approximately 10:50 PM.  Wahlin was found lying on the ground below his tree stand with a broken leg and a head injury.

Plain Fire and Rescue along with Plain Ambulance responded to the scene to extricate Wahlin from the woods.  Wahlin was then transported via Med-Flight to UW Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Sauk County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Department of Natural Resources, Plain Fire and Ambulance and Med-Flight.
