Missing Child Update

On December 27, 2018, as a result of investigative leads developed by the Sauk County Sheriff's Office, a location in Virginia Beach, Virginia was identified as a possible location to where suspect Julia Anne Byrdic and 9 year old Mason Byrdic may be found.  In coordination with the Virginia Beach, Virginia Police Department, Officers were sent to this location and found Julia and Mason hiding in a bedroom.  Julia Byrdic was taken into custody under the charge of Interference with Custody-Beyond Visitation which is a Class F Felony.  She is incarcerated in Virginia and is awaiting extradition back to Sauk County.  

Mason is safe and with the Virginia Beach Police Department and Child Protective Services waiting the arrival of his guardians to take custody of him.  

The Sauk County Sheriff's Office thanks all who called in with tips and assisted with this investigation to safely reunite this child with his guardians.
