Missing Swimmer - ***Update - Name released***

The name of the deceased male is Luis Miguel Lopez Jimenez, age 24 of Richland Center, WI. 

***UPDATE***

On Monday, September 9th, 2024 at approximately 8:10 AM the Sauk County Sheriff's Office was notified that a body was located washed up on a sand bar in the Wisconsin River approximately 1.75 miles downriver from where a swimmer was reported missing on September 1st. 

With assistance from the Spring Green Police Department and the Spring Green Fire Department, a body of a male was recovered from the river by the Sauk County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office is working to positively identify the male and make notifications to family. The name of the deceased will be released at a later time.

On September 1st, 2024, at approximately 3:48 PM, The Sauk County Communications Center received a call of a missing swimmer in the Wisconsin River near Peck’s Landing in the Spring Green Township. Deputies, Fire personnel, and Conservation Wardens responded to the area. Once on scene, it was learned that three men had entered the water from a sandbar and were swept away by the current.  One man was able to swim back to the sandbar while another was rescued by a passing boat.  The third man, a twenty-four-year-old from Richland Center, was unaccounted for. 

Members of the Sauk County Dive Team, Conservation Wardens, and the Spring Green and Lone Rock Fire Departments searched the river unsuccessfully for the missing man until darkness set in. Search efforts will continue September 2nd.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Spring Green Fire and EMS, Lone Rock Fire Department, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
