Motor Vehicle Crash - Fatality **Update - Names Released**

**Update - The name of the vehicle operator involved in this crash is Timothy Olson, age 22 of Baraboo, Wisconsin. The name of the deceased passenger in this crash is Nicholas Rizzio, age 20 of Reedsburg, Wisconsin. The investigation into this crash remains ongoing. **

On Sunday, January 22nd, 2023 at approximately 11:45 PM the Sauk County Dispatch Center received a report of a motor vehicle crash on County Road W east of the intersection with Pikes Peak Road in the township of Baraboo. It was reported to be a single vehicle crash with multiple occupants suffering injuries. 

Initial responding deputies located the crash scene on the north side of County Road W. The vehicle involved was a 2011 Chevrolet Impala which had sustained severe damage during the crash. Preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle was traveling west on County Road W when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle left the roadway on the north side of the road, striking a power pole and a tree before coming to rest in the ditch. The passenger in the vehicle, a 20 year old male from Reedsburg, was pronounced deceased on scene due to injuries from the crash. The driver, a 22 year old male from Baraboo, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors and the crash remains under investigation at this time. The names of those involved are currently being withheld pending notification of family. 

The Sauk County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by members of the Baraboo Fire Department and the  Baraboo Ambulance Service.
