Motorcycle vs Deer Crash - Town of Winfield

NEWS RELEASE

MOTORCYCLE / DEER CRASH – TOWN OF WINFIELD

 

On May 11, 2024, at approximately 12:10 pm, the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a motorcycle versus deer traffic crash on County Highway V near Churchill Road in the Town of Winfield.  It was reported that both the operator and passenger of the motorcycle were injured.  First responders were immediately sent to the scene. 

The initial investigation showed that a 2024 Harley Davidson Road Glide Custom was eastbound on CTH V south of Churchill Road.  A deer entered the road into the path of the motorcycle.  The motorcycle struck the deer, overturned, and slid to rest along the road edge.  Both occupants were separated from the motorcycle.  Neither was wearing a helmet.  Both were treated as the scene before being transported to a regional hospital for further care.  The operator was transported by ambulance and the passenger was transported by UW-Medflight. 

The operator of the motorcycle was Karl Hagenah, age 67, of Hillsboro, Wisconsin.  Hagenah sustained serious injuries.  The passenger was Kari Bentheimer, age 62, of Hillsboro, Wisconsin.  Bentheimer sustained critical injuries as a result of the crash. 

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Reedsburg Police Department, Reedsburg Fire Department, Reedsburg Area Ambulance Service, and UW-Medflight.
