OWI 3

On Monday, March 4th 2019 at approximately 9:19 PM a Sauk County sheriff's deputy located a traffic crash on State Highway 58 near the intersection with Branton Road in the township of Ironton. Prior to locating the crash the deputy had been in the area after receiving a report of a possibly intoxicated driver.

The deputy located a crashed 2005 Chevrolet Silverado on HWY 58 northwest of Branton Road. The registration on the truck matched the subject who was reported to be possibly operating while intoxicated. The truck was not occupied at the time it was located, but there were fresh foot prints in the snow leading away from the truck. The deputy checked the area around the crash but was initially unable to locate the operator.

While on scene awaiting the arrival of the tow truck the deputy heard a male subject in the woods yelling for help. The deputy was able to locate the male who was identified as the owner and operator of the truck, Mark Kast Jr. During his contact with Mark the deputy observed signs of intoxication. Due to the length of time Mark had been exposed to the cold temperatures an ambulance was dispatched to evaluate him. After completion of that evaluation Mark refused field sobriety testing and was arrested for operating while intoxicated, 3rd offense. He was transported to the Sauk County Jail.

Assisiting the sheriff's office at the scene were members of Cazenovia EMS, LaValle First Responders and Steve's Towing.
