OWI 7TH OFFENSE

On December 17, 2019 at approximately 12:55pm, the Sauk County Communications Center received a report of an intoxicated driver who had departed the Whitetail Crossing Convenience Store in the Town of Delton.  The caller provided the vehicle description, license plate, and last known direction of travel.  A Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was able to locate the vehicle in the Village of West Baraboo and followed it to an address on Winnebago Circle in the City of Baraboo.

The Deputy made contact with the operator who was identified as Steven L. Jahnz, age 55, of Baraboo, WI.  Jahnz displayed signs of alcohol consumption.  Field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test indicated that Jahnz was impaired.  Jahnz was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).

The Deputy learned that Jahnz had 6 prior convictions for OWI and a revoked driving status.  He was also on supervision through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, Division of Community Corrections due to a previous OWI conviction.

Jahnz was transported to the Sauk County Jail and incarcerated for pending charges and a parole hold.  Charges of OWI 7th Offense and Operating after Revocation will be referred to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office.  OWI 7th Offense is a felony in Wisconsin.
