***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***

December 29, 2010

On December 29, 2010 at approximately 11:02am the Sauk County Communications Center was notified of a plane crash in a field just north of the Sauk Prairie Airport north of CTH Z in the Township of Prairie Du Sac. Sheriff’s Deputies, Sauk City Fire Department, Prairie Du Sac Fire Department, and Sauk Prairie Ambulance were all dispatched to the area.

The scene was located in a field just north of the Sauk Prairie Airport. The pilot was still with the plane. The pilot was identified as Chauncy Yost Jr., age 75, of Middleton, WI. Yost advised that he was not injured. Yost was flying a 1981 Fixed Wing, Single Engine, Piper Airplane owned by Madison Air Guard Flying Club out of Middleton, WI. Yost was unfamiliar with the area and was looking for the Sauk Prairie Airport runway when he had to navigate the airplane under the highline power wires that ran across the field. This resulted in the airplane landing abruptly in the field. The airplane came to rest in the snow covered field. “Yost was flying very low looking for the runway, Meister said, however he was about ½ mile prior to the runway”. “Fortunately, no one was injured.”
This incident remains under investigation by the FAA.
