Retirement Announced of Three Long Term Deputies

Sheriff Meister announced today that he has accepted the retirement of three long time Sauk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies. Each have dedicated years of their life to the citizens and visitors of Sauk County.  “They have helped to make each and every person safe and secure within our Community, and we will miss them.” said Sheriff Chip Meister

 

Lieutenant Terry Spencer will be retiring on April 16, 2018 after 37 years of dedicated service.  Terry and his family have always been a part of the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office as growing up, both his Mom and Dad were Sauk County Sheriffs.  Terry began his career on November 2, 1981.  Terry started as a Jailer for the first two years and then was promoted to a Patrol Deputy in July of 1983 where he patrolled the roads until September of 1984 when he was promoted to Sergeant. Terry was a Patrol Sergeant until April of 2001.  During those years, he also served as a Dispatch Sergeant in 1989.  In April of 2001, Terry was once again promoted to Patrol Lieutenant where he has remained. 

 

The second retirement is Sergeant Bill Steinhorst.  Bill will be retiring on May 1, 2018 after serving this County for over 19 years and many additional years with Baraboo Police Department.  Bill began his career as Jailer with the Sheriff’s Office in April of 1999.  He was promoted to Court Security Sergeant in January of 2003 where he has served continuously for 15 years.  Bill’s father, Butch Steinhorst, was a former Sauk County Sheriff and Bill’s son Scott, continues to be an important part of this Office.

 

Deputy Harold Weinke announced his retirement effective June 1, 2018.  Deputy Harold Weinke has served Sauk County for over 42 years.  Deputy Weinke worked for the Sauk County Highway Department for eight years prior to starting his law enforcement career with the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office in June of 1984.  Deputy Weinke worked the first two years of his career as a Jailer and then was promoted to Patrol Deputy in 1986 where he has continuously served this County for the last 32 years.  Harold has played a key role in the Wisconsin COPS Program (Concerns of Police Survivors) for many years helping those who have been impacted by the loss of a loved one in the Law Enforcement Field.  Harold has touched the lives of so many families.

 

The three individuals combined have provided over 90 years of service to the Sauk County Community.  “The Sheriff’s Office has been incredibly lucky to have these three men serve with dedication and heart to this Office.” said Sheriff Chip Meister.  They have touched the lives of so many people throughout this Office as well as the community.  If you see these men, please thank them for their law enforcement service.
