Sheriff's Office Investigate Fatal Fire

On March 15, 2019 at approximately 7:17 a.m. Baraboo Fire Department, Baraboo District Ambulance Service and the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to E10488 Terrytown Road for a residential structure fire.

Upon arrival of the first Sheriff’s Deputy, heavy fire was reported coming from the front side of the home.

Baraboo Fire Department apparatus and personnel arrived and battled the fire in the one and one half story single-family dwelling. Initial information received at the scene was that one occupant was missing.

Baraboo Fire Department activated the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) and received assistance at the scene from Reedsburg, Delton, Kilbourn, North Freedom and Merrimac Fire Departments and Sauk Prairie EMS. Sauk City and Loganville Fire Departments backfilled the Baraboo Fire Station.

Once the fire was extinguished, the home was search and a body was recovered from the interior of the house. The identification of the body is underway by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department and the Sauk County Coroner’s Office.

At the same time of the search, the fire investigation was started through a cooperative effort with Deputies from the Sauk County Sheriff’s Department, Agents from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Baraboo Fire Department personnel.  The fire remains under investigation by the aforementioned agencies.

Other agencies assisting at the scene were Alliant Energy, Sauk County Salvation Army, Baraboo Police Department and Sauk County Highway Department.
